Roni Horn aka Roni Horn at Tate Modern, London from Feb 25 - May 25, 2009Roni Horn aka Roni Horn at Tate Modern, London from Feb 25 - May 25, 2009I’m about to cry because I’m not at Art Basel Miami Beach, the American baby of Art Basel . The only condolence is that it is more about parties than art this year but, it’s still THE coolest American art fair /winter break party for those in the art world and instead I’m studying for finals. I remind myself that in June I’ll be able to go to the real Art Basel, the one in Switzerland and it will be all the same cool people and better art…it just seems so far off.

During my time studying in Paris, I plan to take advantage of a lot of major art fairs and art exhibitions in Europe and beyond. Below, I’ve made an itinerary for myself of the major contemporary art events I wish to attend, a brief description if needed, and when I believe I’ll be able to go see them.

January 19 – 30: workshop in Lang and Culture

February 1: classes start

January 30-Febuary 1: Tate Modern/ Tate Liverpool, London
Rothko AND Ideas Taking Space (ends Feb 1st)

February 14 -16: ARCO, Madrid
A pretty good art fair and in Madrid, a place I’ve never been.

February 27 – March 1: Tate Modern/ Tate Liverpool, London

Roni Horn

(Feb 25-May 25) or anyother weekend between those dates

March 18 – 21:

Art Dubai

I thought this was a dream but roundtrip ticks from Paris to Dubai for March 18 to 22nd are $688 on Expedia…do they have hostels in Dubai? hahaha I hope so.

April 11 – 26th: Spring Break in Barcelona
- Go visit Gaudi buildings
- Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MACBA) – for Rabascall, Thomas Bayrle, and Cildo Meireles
- Fundacio Joan Miro – for Kiki Smith and Juan Lopez.

April 22 – 26: Art Cologne, Germany
I’ll go to this art fair probably just for one day at the end of my spring break and then go to Art Brussels.

April 24 – 27: Art Brussels, Belgium
Will be done in conjunction with Art Cologne. These are both smaller, less important, art fairs but should still be interesting and a great reason to travel.

May 14 – 24:

Cannes

International Film Festival

May 15: semester ends

June 10 -14:

Art Basel

, Switzerland
This is THE contemporary art event of the year. I’ve already extended my trip so I can go to this . I’ll probably have a big party to celebrate and will crash some events my boss, Kim Heirston, gets invited to.

I’ve also made a map of all of the places art will take me in Europe (and Dubai) this semester.

I'm so jealous that you're

I'm so jealous that you're going to all of these great art events! I went to Spain a couple years ago but I didn't get to Barcelona, I've seen pictures of Gaudi's buildings and they look incredible.

I think Havana is having their Biennial while I'm there in April. I don't know how it will compare to Art Basel, but I'm definitely looking forward to checking it out
