hmmmhmmm
I have slightly mixed feelings about this course. On the one hand, I loved the topics, and the way they forced me to think critically about my surroundings, and my actions. I liked how universal the course was, and how personal it was—It really was like keeping a diary. At the same time, I’ve never been very good at diaries. Often, I would think over my topic, plan it out, write it up, but then get too busy or distracted to post it. Frequently, other schoolwork took priority, and the fact that I had no actual classes to attend made it easier for me to let things slide. I guess one thing this class showed me is how little self-discipline I have! This was my first online course, and I’m not completely sure that it is an experience I would want to repeat. I would love to have taken this course in a class room, but I really miss class discussions, and the sense of engagement that these create. The comments were often great, funny or informative, but they didn’t really replicate the sense of dialogue that you would have in the classroom. At the same time, the fact that this was all online, and, to a degree, anonymous, allowed for greater accessibility and personal freedom in writing. It was fun to read other people’s blogs from other cities and continents, and to gain through these readings a sense of their experience, and learn a bit about the places they were staying. The website, as a whole, I found to be really great. It’s very accessible, interactive, and informative, and had a lot to offer to almost any traveler. The video clips, links, albums, and reading lists were really a lot of fun. A resource I will be returning to! Honestly, I’m not sure if it’s possible to improve this class. I thought that everything about it was very well done, from the website itself to the assignments. I think that it might be cool to have some kind of forum, or something, where students can meet in sessions, or write messages to one another. That might prove a little complicated, given things like time differences etc, but it’s just a thought!
