Hey guys, sorry this is late, but it is very hard to come across some reliable internet here. My name is Courtney Dunn, and I am currently studying abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina! I am from Annapolis, Maryland, which is just a small sailing town east of D.C. I am a junior in Gallatin, and am working on a concentration in film/costume design and business.  I chose to study in Buenos Aires for a number of reasons, but mainly because i wanted to explore something new (i have never been to South America before), i have heard great things about the artistic nature of the city, and i want to improve on my spanish. When i was a baby, i spoke fluent spanish before i spoke english because my parents both worked full time and i had hispanic nannies. Eventually my parents got frustrated that they could not communicate with their daughter, so they sent me to school and i lost most of my spanish. since then i have taken a lot of spanish in middle and high school, but have been unable to grasp the language like i could as a child. I hope that the immersion in Argentina will help bring it back. here in Buenos Aires i am taking Intensive Spanish for Beginners, Cinema in Latin America, Tango and Mass Culture, The Art of Travel, and Independent Photography.  For this tutorial, i plan to read "The Art of Travel," " In Patagonia," "The Motorcycle Diaries," "Kiss and Tango-Looking for Love in Buenos Aires," and "Smile While You're Lying: Confessions of a Rogue Travel Writer." Tons of interesting things have already happened here in BA, but i will save these stories for my next entry!

Hi Courtney,

Sounds like being in a Spanish-speaking country is going to be quite an experience.  I wonder if it will bring back memories of when you were a baby speaking Spanish with your nannies.  Your book list sounds perfect—maybe you can share some of the books with Crissy.  The course list sounds great too, especially the tango course.  Have you been out for tango yet?

Yes, being in a spanish

Yes, being in a spanish speaking country is definitely an experience. It hasn't brought back too many memories so far, but i absolutely have a new respect for people who are fluent in more than one language. Crissy and i will probably end up sharing books, she has already asked to borrow "In Patagonia" when i am finished with it. I took a little bit of Tango class this past friday! The academic center arranged for two instructors to come teach us every friday afternoon, and i am going to a tango club this week with my class!
