9. Death in Venice

  • Travel Fictions Assignments

Post by Monday, Nov. 4.

1. For Tuesday's class, read Death in Venice in its entirety.

2. Post a blog entry about a travel theme in the novel. You might take a look at one of the articles on the About the Reading page. (BTW, if any of the links don't work for you, go to NYUHome > Researcht tab > under "Databases: Title index" select "L" and go to the "Literature Resource Center," and type in Death in Venice.)  Some suggested topics: (1) Venice is the setting for this book and the next (Comfort of Strangers), so focus on how Venice is represented in the novel and how it contributes to developing one of the book's themes.  (2) The book is packed with literary allusions (see the discussion of allusions on the wikipedia page): track down one of the allusions and discuss it in terms of a travel theme. (3) Check out these study questions, and adapt one to a travel theme.

3. As usual, include an image with your blog post.

4. Post a comment on someone else's blog for the following class on Thursday.
